The City of Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Los Angeles Food Policy Council, is launching the Good Food Zones Program. This initiative focuses on supporting food-centered businesses within designated Good Food Zones by providing $25,000 grants.
The program, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), aims to empower businesses like corner stores, neighborhood markets, restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores to expand access to healthy food options and address challenges heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic. By assisting these businesses in meeting the Good Food Zones Standard, the program strives to bolster healthy food offerings, improve food security, and contribute to the overall well-being of communities in Los Angeles.
The Good Food Zones Program is currently accepting applications until September 13, 2024. Grants of up to $25,000 are available to eligible food-centered businesses in South Los Angeles and the Northeast San Fernando Valley.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, businesses must meet these requirements:
- Must be a for-profit food-centered business such as corner stores, neighborhood markets, restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores
- Must be located within a designated Good Food Zone
- Must have actively been in business on or before March 1, 2020
- Annual revenue cannot exceed $1 million
- Must have an active Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC) with the City of Los Angeles that is current and in good standing
- Must have a State of California seller’s permit
- Must have an LA County Department of Public Health Food Handlers Permit
- Must be operating from a commercial location and have a valid commercial lease (home-based businesses are not eligible)
- Must identify the negative economic impact resulting from COVID-19 and demonstrate that the grant funds will be used for recovery from the pandemic
- Must be in good standing with the Secretary of State, if applicable
