On January 30th, Mayor Karen Bass joined Councilmember Imelda Padilla, EWDD General Manager Carolyn Hull, and ICON CDC Executive Director Roberto Barragan at the South Valley BusinessSource Center to support the launch of CD6’s Wildfire Relief Fund for Impacted Service Workers.
Council District 6 and ICON CDC partnered to combine a $25K allocation from Councilwoman Padilla's discretionary fund with a matching $25K contribution from ICON CDC. With over 1,000 applications received, the program has already demonstrated the urgent need for support among informal workers who often fall outside traditional aid systems.
"The strength of Los Angeles lies in our ability to unite and support our most vulnerable communities in times of crisis," stated Mayor Bass.
"This is about protecting the backbone of our local economy," emphasized Councilmember Padilla. "Our street vendors, housekeepers, landscapers, and other informal workers need immediate support, and through this partnership with ICON CDC, we're delivering that help directly to families in need."
The program offers grants of $250 for individuals and $500 for families, with applications reviewed on a first come, first served basis. Mayor Bass's endorsement strengthens the call for other elected officials in the San Fernando Valley to join this matching initiative, expanding the safety net for vulnerable workers across the region.
