On December 2nd, local leaders from EWDD WorkSource partner Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD), the City of Los Angeles, and Los Angeles County gathered at L.A. Trade-Tech College to celebrate a $20 million federal investment from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The funding will be used towards the "South L.A. All In-Good Jobs, Healthy Communities" (SLAAI-GJHC) Initiative.
The initiative will focus on recruiting South L.A. residents for clean energy career pathways in electric vehicle maintenance, welding, weatherization, and lead abatement. Through the program, participants will receive hands-on training and support in connecting to employers in the clean energy sector. As the speakers emphasized, this career pathway opportunity will bolster residents’ accessibility to gaining employment in careers that yield household-sustaining wages.
Additionally, training participants will tackle the removal of lead from residential homes in the South L.A. region, improving the environmental health of the communities they reside in. EWDD looks forward to being a partner in this workforce training initiative.
