Southeast YouthSource Center (YSC) recently hosted a workshop on depression for young women in the community
In collaboration with the Office of Mayor Karen Bass's office and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, the Southeast YouthSource Center (YSC) recently hosted a workshop on depression for young women in the community. The event was held on Friday, April 14, 2023, as part of what the YSC hopes will be an ongoing series. Nine female youth participants and YSC staff participated in the workshop.

Mental Health Coordinator Lois Herndon led a two-hour presentation that touched on the symptoms of depression. Herndon's discussion included how to detect if someone is going through a depressive state, the differences between sadness and depression, the ranges of mental health disorders, and the contrast between men and women regarding how they manage their depression and suicide.

When asked about why it's important to educate young women about mental health, Herndon said, "It's important to educate young women about this topic because it brings awareness and helps break the stigma around mental health."
