L.A. stories of inspiration and success

Jessica Rosales, owner of J & M Auto Body in San Fernando Valley, a rare woman owned body shop
Jessica Rosales has been an inspiration to several women entrepreneurs for launching her own body shop, J & M Auto Body, which has been in operation in North Hollywood since January 2018.

At the peak of the pandemic, Jessica’s business was not considered essential. She was forced to temporarily shut down her business, causing her to lose money, contracts and reduce her employees' work hours. This is when Jessica reached out to the North Valley BusinessSource (BSC) for support.

The BSC business consultants assisted her with applying for the LA Regional COVID Relief Fund, which awarded her a $15,000 grant, and the City of LA’s Comeback Checks Program, which awarded her a $5,000 grant. With the financial assistance, she was able to cover COVID-19-related business expenses and payroll.

For the past two years, the North Valley BSC has offered continuous support to Jessica to help her business stabilize. After signing a contract with Hertz Car Rental, her profits increased significantly and she is now ready to expand. Jessica had a vision to install a spray booth in her location, which was estimated to cost $50,000. Senior Business Consultant Yoryana Aguilar worked closely with Jessica to help her obtain the funding that she needed.

In July, Yoryana assisted Jessica with completing a loan application, gathering financial documents, and communicating with the lender on Jessica’s behalf to facilitate the application process. In September 2022, Jessica was successfully approved for $50,000 in funding.

Jessica’s goal is to hire two additional full-time employees after the spray booth is installed and completed. She will also be expanding her business by renting the vacant space adjacent to her current location, which will allow the business to service more cars. She is also looking into certifications and procurement opportunities in the near future.

J & M Auto Body is located in LA City Council District 2.
