Hire LA’s Youth interns and YouthSource Center staff Assist Census 2020
Five Hire LA’s Youth interns and YouthSource Center staff recently participated in Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Census Goodwill Ambassador Program as part of their Hire LA’s Youth summer internships.

The interns, who are enrolled at the Boyle Heights Technology YouthSource Center, participated in the Saturday, August 8th Census 2020 canvassing event in the Cypress Park community. Volunteers went door-to-door answering community questions, handing out census flyers and face coverings.

The event was designed to encourage community members to respond to the Census 2020 to preserve local funding for crucial programs and to make sure each community is accurately represented. Volunteers learned about the status of the 2020 Census and were then deployed to canvass historically undercounted neighborhoods around South LA.

Hire LA’s Youth is Mayor Garcetti’s youth employment program, which offers many young Angelenos their first job experience setting them on the path of lifetime earners.
