EWDD has a network of 14 YouthSource Centers strategically located in underserved neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles. The centers provide support and guidance for young Angelenos age 16-24, to help them pursue higher education and good paying jobs.

The October 15, 2018 edition of EWDD Updates featured three stories from EWDD partner Para Los Niños, which oversees the City’s Central and Northeast Region YouthSource Centers.

These stories represent the critical work all the City’s YouthSource Centers provide to help young Angelenos succeed.

Northeast YouthSource Students Visit Broad Before College Applications Due

Students from the Para Los Niños Northeast Region YouthSource Center recently enjoyed an evening at The Broad Museum. Although many of the YSC students have been raised in Los Angeles, nearly all were visiting The Broad for the first time.

The youth participants were very happy to attend a relaxing activity as college application deadlines approach. All PLN students have begun their college applications and will be submitting them by the end of this month.

Christopher was homeless and unsure about his next steps when he was referred to Para Los Niños YouthSource Center by a former program participant.

He came to the center in search of guidance and motivation to return to school. He was enrolled in YouthSource program immediately and into a course at the East Los Angeles Skills Center, where he is now working towards his high school diploma.

He received intensive case management, supportive services and assistance in finding employment so that he could secure housing.

Christopher recently reunited with his mother and both now have a place to stay. PLN continues to work with Christopher to ensure that he has all the support he needs to be successful in school, work and that he has stable housing.

Central LA Region YouthSource Participates in Wellness Sessions

Participants from the Central Region YouthSource Center, run by EWDD partner Para Los Niños, recently held a discussion on healthy food where they shared their current food choices and were asked to think of healthy alternatives.

Facilitators offered the participants tips on healthy eating habits and stress management. Youth were also introduced to meditation practices to decrease stress and were asked to prepare healthy snack alternatives.
