EWDD has become aware that applicants of the City of LA’s Small Business Emergency Microloan Program (“Microloan Program”) may be targets of scams to obtain personal information. These scams may come in the form of phone calls, text messages or voice mail messages to applicants requesting personal information or directing them to various websites. They may also come in the form of emails that may contain links to malicious attachments or fraudulent websites.

These are all unauthorized attempts to obtain your personal information, including your password associated with the Microloan Program. EWDD is not and will not be calling, sending text messages, or sending emails to applicants to direct them to non-City websites or to obtain personal information. To protect yourself from falling victim to these scams, be wary of answering phone calls from numbers you do not recognize and do not give out your personal information, including passwords, banking information, Social Security number or other personally identifiable information over the phone, by text message or in emails to anyone you do not know.

If you receive an email purporting to be about the Microloan Program, EWDD encourages you to follow good security practices to help reduce the likelihood of falling victim to scams.
