recent retiree Maria Mata (right) with her WorkSource Center career coach, Jessica Fuentes
The Vernon-Central/Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) WorkSource Center (WSC) recently helped retiree Maria Mata find a new job to supplement her retirement benefits.

Maria had been receiving her retirement benefits for some time, but was forced to look for additional income as the cost of living has been consistently on the rise. After working closely with Career Coach Jessica Fuentes and diligently following her advice, Maria received multiple job offers.

Maria now works as a courtesy clerk at Vons.

The Vernon-Central/LATTC WSC, run by EWDD partner Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD), was also able to provide Maria supportive services for new work clothes.

Maria said she highly recommends the City’s WorkSource Centers for other job seekers and is very happy with her new job.

“You will be able to reach your goals with the help of the WorkSource,” Maria said.

This story illustrates how EWDD prioritizes helping older workers find employment in response to Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Executive Directive No. 17, Age-Friendly City Initiative: Purposeful Aging LA along, with EWDD’s wider effort to help vulnerable and under-represented populations.
