Dereck Moore, President and CEO of Building Maintenance of Tomorrow, LLC (BMOT) is poised for growth in 2017. In 2008, Moore started BMOT with a mission to provide superior and specialized environmentally-friendly janitorial and maintenance services to commercial companies throughout California and the rest of the United States. With a strategic plan underway to hire more staff, his janitorial and maintenance service business counts several institutions of higher learning on its client roster, including UCLA, UCI and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Staff of the South Los Angeles BusinessSource Center (SLABSC) met with Mr. Moore in 2015 and discovered that his company was unique and sincere in its approach to provide opportunities to local workers. SLABSC staff believed that Building Maintenance of Tomorrow could expand its client base and further its commitment to hiring qualified workers in Los Angeles with a loan for working capital and payroll. BMOT was approved for a loan for $200,000, but decided to accept only $90,000.

SLABSC collaborated with the Vernon-Central WorkSource Center and coordinated advertising and recruitment efforts for BMOT’s job vacancies. SLABSC provided a central location for interviews to take place by agreeing to host BMOT for on-site interviews during a two week time span. This coordinated effort has resulted in more than 67 jobs since 2015 and a win for local residents and BMOT.
